Public Space With A Roof

is an artist run space in Amsterdam, run by Tamuna Chabshvili (1977, Georgia), Adi Hollander (1977, Israel) and Inga Zimprich (1979, Germany). Since April 2005 the sonic artists Mhairi Macfarlane and Andrew McKee support Public Space With A Roof in its daily practice and production.
Public Space With A Roof is located in the former squat OT301 in an old filmacademie in the old west area. Next to the project space the building provides a vegan restaurant, a cinema, workshops, 2 studio-spaces and diverse activities.

The project space consists of a 60 square meters space and an office area. It hosts an archive of artist-documentations, publications and project-descriptions which is accessible for the public at opening hours. Furthermore you can submit your work-documentation to the archive.

Founded in 2003 the project space restructured in June - August 2004, after a series of weekly process-oriented and experimental exhibitions. Public Space With A Roof, since then, attempts to create exhibitions, lectures and projects relating to themes of a shared public and social interest and aims to add an artistic perspective to a public debate. These planned projects are conducted as three-month long researches with the working titles Intervening the Urban Void (Nov 04 - Feb 05), Relocated Identities (May 05 - July 05), Economy Class (Sep 05 - Nov 05) and Beauty Unrealized (Feb 06 - April 06).

In the meantime Public Space With A Roof gives space to short term projects, presentations and exhibitions, for which proposals can be submitted.

The filmprogram of Public Space With A Roof is curated by Manu Tau. Movies are screened in the cinema of OT 301.
